Lean About Driver And How it Works

In other words, a driver is a program which is an interpreter between the operational system and a specific device.

Such programs explain the operational system which properties each specific device has, and how it can be used. At the same time, due to the drivers, the operational system gets possibility to manage this device. For example, the printer's driver explains the printer in which way it should print out this or that document.

So, what are drivers, and what are they required for? I'll do my best to explain it as simple as possible by giving examples and without going too deep into special terms.

Drivers are mediators between the operational system, Windows, for example, and the devices on your computer such as sound card, for instance. The computer consists of a great quantity of various devices, and to get the operational system to understand how to interact with all these devices, the equipment developers compose special programs. These are exactly what we call 'drivers'.
